A few words about my approach
Start
Put the customer at the center of your universe.
.
Do the Research
Interview, collect data, survey the competitive landscape, discover the issues you didn’t realize were issues. Understand the NEED.
.
Define the Problem
Once you understand the problem you can begin to shape the goals you hope to achieve through design.
.
Workshop
Use workshops to air out preconceptions, to ferret out the unknowns, and to stress-test your awesome ideas. And understand that workshops are useless unless you have the right people in the room!
.
Atomic Approach
Atoms, molecules, components. Designing at this level facilitates the creation of design systems and libraries. It gives us the ability to be agile, to adapt to new discoveries and requirements, and to pivot without having to start from scratch.
.
Eradicate Friction
Friction happens whenever a user has to stop and think, scratch their head, do extra work, or finds something to be counter-intuitive. Friction leads to fatigue, and fatigue leads to a poor experience and abandonment.
.
Train the User
By making the experience consistent we train our users and we manage their expectations. If we are consistent we reduce friction.
.
Collaborate or Fail
On a project all the teams from Design, Technology, Dev, and Product should be working toward one common goal. Communication and collaboration should be fluid all the way through launch. Remember: silos are for storing grain!
.
Innovate
It’s not enough to get things humming nicely, improve conversion, and make everyone happy. Rock the boat, question what you are doing, and reinvent.
